PS3 price drops to Rs 19,990 in India

Hot on the heels of the announcement at Sony’s press conference at GamesCom last night, Sony Computer Entertainment India has revealed that the PlayStation 3 will receive an immediate 20% price drop in India. The PS3, currently priced at Rs 24,990, will drop to Rs 19,990 as early as this evening, and will come bundled with two games – Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Gran Turismo 5: Prologue.

The current PS3 model available in India contains an 80GB hard drive and is available in three bundles, one with Killzone 2, the second with Uncharted and GT5: Prologue, and the third with Resistance: Fall of Man and MotorStorm.
Last night at GamesCom, Sony also finally revealed the redesigned slim PS3, which is not only smaller, but also consumes over 30% less electricity and comes with a 120GB hard drive. While this new design will be available in Europe and America in the first week at September, we in India may have to wait for it a little longer.

While SCEI refused to go on the record, we were told that the slim PS3 would take time to come to India, and may not even make it here in September, as Europe and America get priority when it comes to shipments. We were also told that when the slim PS3 does come to India, it would most probably be priced at Rs 19,990, but may not carry any free games.

Hack with Dashhacks: PS3 Break Giveaway

In light of our new found relationship with mygamingmart.com we’re going to give away one of these bad boys:
PS3 BreakIt’s been tested; I can personally confirm PS3 Break works. The device is upgradable too, which means whenever an update happens you can make use of it. For example, lets say the ability to hack an earlier firmware version, or dare I say a later version is made possible. Well if the hack stems from the same USB trickery then you could update this stick to do just that.
Anyway, one lucky reader is going to get that same PS3 Break pictured above, courtesy of mygamingmart.com.
Now I understand our demographic is mostly male, so to all the guys out there wanting to hack their PS3, you better hope you know some hotties too. I’m talking Ice-T’s Coco hot. If you’re a girl reading this and looking to hack her PS3, first let me apologize for sounding sexist, but really, it’s even easier for you. That said, all you gottat do is this: Take a picture of whoever — your girlfriend, your mom, yourself (if you’re female) — sporting the Dashhacks logo or ps3-hacks.com in some fashion and twitpic that pic to @dashhacks on Twitter. Jailbreak your PS3--- Firmware below 3.41

Own a PS3 and an Android powered phone? Are you sick of doing those Jailbreaks or reading tips on how to Jailbreak your iPhone? Here’s something different, a tip to hack your Sony PlayStation with Google Android Phones. Let’s call it a jailbreak instead.

This would enable you to create backups of your games on your PS3 console, but remember one thing before reading on or trying this how to: Sony can ban your PS3 from its PlayStation Network if your device is modded or hacked. With the warning issued, let’s proceed with the steps.

Step1. Download PSGroove for the Google Nexus One and the HTC Desire and unzip the file.

Step 2. You will then have to extract the N1-CM6-PSFreedom.tar.gz and then copy the same to your Android Phone’s SD Card. Along with these files copy PS3-signed.zip and PS3-no-more-signed.zip to the SD Card. With this done reboot your mobile in the recovery console.

Step3. With the reboot done, you can then flash the PS3-signed.zip on the mobile and reboot it again.

Step 4. Use ConnectBot [or other terminal app] and enter the following:

cd/mnt/sdcard
su
insmod psfreedom.ko
Step 5. Turn off your PS3 and connect your mobile device using the USB cable.
Step 6. Switch on your PS3 and ensure you press the power and the Eject button one after the other.
Step 7. Welcome your PlayStation 3 jailbroken with the Android phone. This can be further confirmed by seeing the Install Package Files on the PS3 interface.
You can also check out what phones are compatible by visiting PSFreedom. You can reset your phone by flashing the PS3-no-more-signed.zip from the device in the recovery mode and your Android is back in the non-flashed state. Be warned that this hack has a few bugs associated to the WiFi and the Mass Storage options.
I just wonder when users can hack the PS3 with the iPhone?
